This was just too good not to share. Crossexaminingcrime.wordpress.com recently had a fun article that included a number of book jackets from mysteries from the Golden Age. The article, “Golden Age Advice on Staying at Country Houses”, is witty and wise. Check it out. https://bit.ly/1s7juVX

Costumes of Miss Phryne Fisher
Most of us will not get to Australia before June 19, but it’s tantalizing to see the website for this extraordinary costume exhibit. There’s a special exhibition of costumes designed by award-winning designer Marion Boyce at The Old Government House in New South Wales. If you’re a fan of the Kerry Greenwood’s Honourable Miss Phryne Fisher mystery series you’ll wish you could see the costumes worn in the television series set in the 1920s.

There are so many special events linked to the exhibit. There’s high tea, author talks, a speakeasy bar, a musical evening, and a “behind the seams” tour. Just too tantalizing, isn’t it?
Just can’t get to Australia, but you would like to immerse yourself in 1920s Australia? You can buy the books through The Poisoned Pen. https://bit.ly/1OHhYyr
Craig Johnson on Tour – Recap
Is there anything more fun than hearing Craig Johnson? He’s a true storyteller. He’s currently on tour with his Longmire novella, The Highwayman. We have photos of his visit to The Poisoned Pen. He does know how to make an entrance.
And, he’s unmistakable in that hat.
We’d like you to feel as if you were in the audience as well. So, the event was filmed for Livestream if you would like to see it. https://livestream.com/poisonedpen/events/5229375
And, of course, we have signed copies of The Highwayman, if you’d like to purchase one. (Hint – It might make a perfect Father’s Day gift.)
It’s All About Family – Daniel, Matthew & Michael Palmer
Brothers Daniel Palmer and Matthew Palmer will be at The Poisoned Pen on Wednesday, May 25 at 7 PM. After their father’s death, Daniel, already an author, was asked to write medical thrillers in the tradition of his father, Michael. The first book is Mercy.
Matthew Palmer will be signing The Wolf of Sarajevo.
What’s it like to write in the “Family Tradition”? Daniel answered that question in a recent Publishers Weekly interview, https://bit.ly/20f4Erg

Below is one of the illustrated books in the collection.
The second photo is the Kelmscott Chaucer, considered one of the beautiful books ever created.
Both books are part of the Rosenwald Collection in the Library of Congress.

Dan Fesperman in The New York Times
Dan Fesperman, author of The Letter Writer, will be here at The Poisoned Pen on Thursday, May 19 at 7 PM. He’s joined by Alex Grecian, author of Lost and Gone Forever. Did you see Marilyn Stasio’s review of The Letter Writer in The New York Times Book Review on April 29? She calls the novel “dynamic”, and says, “Fesperman’s prose is almost photographic, creating vignettes saturated with color and humming with life.”
You can read the entire review here. https://nyti.ms/1sgicrh
If you can’t be here Thursday night, you can still order a signed copy.
