Chabon, Michael. Telegraph Ave Signed - It’s been a while since I read Gentlemen of the Road and Clay, so I was really excited when Telegraph Avenue was released.  To be real honest, I just tucked myself into this book after reading NW, the Pack and The Other Woman but I’m already finding myself back into a comfortable and familiar setting of Chabon’s writing.  Chabon brings us the story of two closely knit families- the two husbands owner of a Vinyl record store and the wives are local mid-wives.  When a big box store comes to town it will upset the lives of this local hippish community- changing, straining and testing the relationships of these families as well as testing the fabric of what makes a community.
Ryan, Hank Phillippi.  The Other Woman SignedHank Phillippi Ryan has produced an engaging and exciting modern political thriller with The Other Woman.  When Jane Ryland refuses to give up the identity of one of her sources, she loses in a court case costing her news station a million dollars and her career.  By luck, an old friend picks her up to be a reporter for the local newspaper and puts her on an assignment to find a local politician’s absent wife.  Little does Jane realize that this path will throw her into a dangerous path- possibly into the path of a serial killer.  Ryan keeps the tension high with plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader reading to the last pages.
Smith, Zadie. NW Signed. – Zadie Smith has been one of my favorite writers since her debut, White Teeth several years back.  Within NW, Smith brings her readers to North West London, following the lives of four young adults, carving a life outside and within their much loved and hated section of London.  Smith is never an easy read- her writing has a poetic cadence- with every word and sentence having meaning.  However, every time I read a Smith novel, her sense of language and story becomes a grand adventure.  Truly worth reading!
Starr, Jason. The Pack.Starr’s novel, The Pack, is an intriguing approach to the modern werewolf novel.  Simon Burns has had a rough month after losing his job within a prestigious New York advertisement firm; he’s become adrift- essentially losing his identity after loosing his job.  Burns life changes when he meets a group of other stay at home dads and quickly becomes part of the group.  After one night of heavy drinking Burns wakes up naked and bloody in the New Jersey woods not far from the home of his ex-boss- murdered by a wolf in the middle of the night.

Casey, Donis. Wrong Hill To Die On Signed. – Alafair and her husband bring one of their young daughters here to Phoenix in hopes of helping her health. I love the Alafair Tucker mysteries and having this one set in early Phoenix was very cool.
Child, Lee.Wanted Man Signed (US $29 / UK $43) – I had this as a pick last month but it is good enough to merit another mention.

Connolly, John & Declan Burke. Books To Die For

Nesbo, Jo. Phantom Signed. Nesbo is my favorite of the current wave of Scandanavian writers. His Harry Hole books are intense and heartbreaking and this newest installment does not disappoint. We are also expecting “Bat” which is the true 1st Harry Hole book.
Fforde, Jasper. Last Dragonslayer. A very charming book for younger readers.
Queenan, Joe. One For the Books.
Robotham, Michael. Say You’re Sorry Signed.
