Martin, George R R. Dance of Dragons. Most recent book in the A Song of Fire & Ice series. Have you seen the show? If not its a must see! Best show on TV in years…

Mina, Denise. Gods and Beasts Signed UK. Scotland is a dark and scary place, yet it seems to be the location of most of the books I read and thoroughly enjoy. Something about it keeps bringing me back. Denise Mina has great talent and in Gods and Beasts she wraps up her most recent trilogy featuring DS Alex Morrow. If you enjoyed Still Midnight and End of the Wasp season then make sure to pick up the next book in the series.

Winslow, Don. Kings of Cool Signed. Prequel to Savages, now a major motion picture. Looks awesome!

Abbott, Megan.  End of Everything. Finally in trade paperback, this wonderful book from Edgar award winner Abbott is a great coming of age tale…

Rollins, James. Bloodline Signed.  Another exciting SIGMA book!  This one involves an incredible service dog who knows a thousand words and often saves the day…

Slaughter, Karin. Criminal Signed. Her latest novel encompasses forty years and shows us will Trent’s past when his father was imprisoned and he lived in an orphanage and a past he thought was behind him…

Pat King

Furst, Alan.  Mission to Paris Signed. Furst is one of those novelists, I look forward to reading every summer.  In his latest novel, Mission to Paris, Furst takes us to Paris, 1938- just before the second World War breaks out.  Paris is charged with the political happenings within Europe when Frederic Stahl arrives to work on a movie for Paramount France.  Little does Stahl realize, but he will become an informal spy for the US Government.    Furst captures the vivaciousness of Paris as a City and quickly transports the reader to this time period.  Awash in intrigue, action and even a romance, Furst’s novel trapped me in and took me away from the 110 degree heat of a Sunday afternoon.

Jacobs, AJ. Drop Dead Healthy. I started with Jacobs a few years back when his book, A Year of Living Biblically hit the shelves.  Since then, I have read through Jacob’s other non-fiction works- The Know It All and the Guinea Pig Diaries. Drop Dead Healthy, Jacobs focuses on getting himself healthier- one body part at a time.   In usual Jacobs fashion, he uses each chapter as a way to focus on some of the outlandish things that we, as Americans, do to get ourselves healthy as well as taking a light-hearted look at the fitness and health industries.   An enjoyable non-fiction read that is great to take to the beach and enjoy for summer vacation.

Koch, Gini. Alexander Outland Space Pirate Signed. It’s rare to say that a Space Opera could be an enticing Beach Read.  However, Koch has managed to take the generally over-serious Space exploration/Adventure and turn it into a laugh riot.  Captain Alexander Napoleon Outland is a womanizing, overconfident pilot of the Space Vessel  3369 caught up in trying to make a living without the worry of government intervention.  When a deal goes bad, Outland finds himself caught between the Mob, government and other would be assassins.  Koch keeps the tone light and quick paced with constant action, fun dialogue, a bit of sex and enough humor to keep me reading through.  Imagine Evanovich mixed with Hiaasen- set in Space.  A lot of fun to read!

Tye, Larry.  Superman: The High-Flying History of America’s Most Enduring Hero Superman is one of the greatest characters ever created; debuting in Action Comics #1 in June of 1938, Superman’s legacy has been profound.  Larry Tye takes an indepth look into the creation of Superman and his impact on American society.  For an interesting program on Tye and his work, NPR did a killer review :http://www.npr.org/2012/06/18/155278330/its-a-bird-its-a-plane-its-a-new-superman-bio

Abbott, Megan. End of Everything. One of my favorite books of last year

Burke, James Lee. Creole Bell Signed. A New Dave Robichauex!!!!! Enough said.

Dolan, Harry. Very Bad Men

Hamilton, Steve. Die a Stranger Signed.
Leonard, Elmore. The Hunted. Once upon a time, this was the very first Elmore Leonard book I ever read. I became a huge fan.

O’Connell, Carol. Chalk Girl.

Will Hanisko

Burke, James Lee. Creole Bell Signed. Having gotten to go to lunch with Mr. Burke, his wife and daughter and listen to him tell stories from his youth I’m completely convinced that he’s a born storyteller. Plus, it’s Robichauex!

Spiegelman, Peter. Thick As Thieves($14) As a kid I always was intrigued with the idea of pulling off a bank robbery. I had plans involving nitrous oxide hooked up to the sewer system, etc…Needless to say, when a caper book receives glowing reviews from Don Winslow, Lee Child, Jeffery Deaver and Reed Farrel Coleman, I have to check it out.

Thor, Brad. Black List Signed. Brad Thor’s novels always feel like a peak inside the most current political action and military technology.

Zafon, Carlos Ruiz. Prisoner of Heaven Signed and Numbered UK Limited. I spent several months in Spain, quite a bit of it in Barcelona, and it’s fun to have a little insight into the setting. Zafon’s dark and fantastic plot lines are always a welcome departure from reality.
